Canon Gene Robinson will be ordained a bishop today (2nd November) in Durham, New Hampshire. The Reverend Richard Kirker, General Secretary of the Lesbian and Gay Christian Movement will be attending the service as a guest of Bishop-elect Robinson. Speaking from New Hampshire Mr Kirker
said today:
"I am looking forward to attending the service later today. The making of a
bishop is always an important day for God's Church, and all here are preparing
prayerfully for this service.
"Despite all the furious debate this ordination has stirred, what strikes me as
I speak to people here, is the admiration and love felt by all who know Gene
Robinson. Even those who are troubled by his sexuality are full of praise for
him as a Man of God, pastor and teacher,
"What will happen here is a religious service, and we all hope and pray that
through this solemn celebration the power of God's love will be transmitted
throughout the world. We Christians have so much to unite and inspire us, let us
seize the moment and let our love for each other triumph over our divisions."
