Conservative Primates and the fundamentals of Fascism

Reports that fundamentalist and conservative Archbishops have already determined the outcome of the Primates Meeting at Lambeth Palace this week has caused alarm in many sections of the Church.

The careful preparation of the anti-gay archbishops began over a year ago with some reported to have spent most of the last 12 months travelling the world almost constantly in a bid to bring matters to a head.

Attempts by Lambeth Palace to avoid any splits and to "manage" the meetings have come apart at the seams. So fearful are the Lambeth "fixers" that recriminations have already begun within the Palace as to "whose bright idea was this meeting anyway?".

The Lesbian and Gay Christian Movement see this as part of a theological and political move to the far right. They believe it will have catastrophic consequences for the Anglican Church.

The General Secretary of the Lesbian and Gay Christian movement The Revd Richard Kirker, commented today: (October 14th)

"It is no accident that the mounting hatred of homosexuals within the church should come at a time when fascist movements are gaining strength in Europe and throughout the world.

"Hitler's ovens were only a more high tech version of the bonfires of a Church that had for centuries endorsed and planned the massacres of homosexuals, Jews, new thinkers and any who were different.

"The Church practiced inclusiveness by destroying the outsider, crushing dissent and reducing challenge to ash.

"With the loss of its own political power, the Church endorsed the actions of evil governments that continued its policy of "cleansing". or it remained silent.

"It seems that the Church has entered into a new era of persecution. It is repeating the mistakes of lost empires in identifying scapegoats upon whom to heap the ills of society. It is mistaken both in its analyses of the problems we all face, as well as its solutions.
