Outerspace at Greenbelt 2012

24 August 2012

Image of Sharon Ferguson and Peter Tatchell at Greenbelt 2012I attended the Greenbelt Festival once again this year over the August Bank Holiday Weekend. Every year without fail it rains at some point but this year was exceptional!

The storm and quantity of water that fell on the Saturday was enough to make even Noah batten down the hatches. However, in spite of the weather, the show still went on and there were many inspirational talks as well as entertainment and worship.

I was able to join Peter Tatchell on the stage of the Big Top to talk about the issue of marriage equality to a packed crowd. The support for this issue was overwhelming despite the lack of information that the general Christian public seem to have about equality legislation.

Peter and I were able to take a number of varied questions in the time allowed and afterwards I spent a further 35 minutes answering more questions as people lined up to speak to me as I tried to leave the venue.

It was amazing the number of people who came along to the ‘Outerspace’ stall during the weekend simply to express their support for greater inclusion for LGBT people within their home Church and the wider Church.

It is encouraging that such a huge Christian Festival is so supportive and offers several speakers who speak out against the discrimination of LGBT people in the name of God.
