Welcome to the Lesbian & Gay Christian Movement

All the world's major religions are faced with having to come to terms with a modern understanding of homosexuality. The place of gay and lesbian people in the life of the Church is currently Christianity's most divisive issue. Confronting homophobia is its greatest challenge. The Lesbian and Gay Christian Movement is proclaiming a basic Christian truth. It is working for the very love and freedom that Christ brings to his people through his life, death and resurrection. LGCM is working for love, for peace, for justice, and for the promotion of the Christian faith especially within the LGBT community.

  1. International LGBT Human Rights Summit and LGBT Health Summit

    31 August 2011

Sharon and Tony presented the Faith and Sexuality Education Resource at the Human Rights Summit on Wednesday 31 August. 16 people participated in the workshop where they had the opportunity to experience a lesson from the resource as well as watch various video clips from the website.

Sharon also presented a double workshop with Christina Beardsley on Gender, Sexuality and Spirituality on the Thursday as part of the Health Summit. Again this was well attended with the group engaging fully and sharing deeply from their personal experiences. Many different faith perspectives were represented by the group and the expectations were varied. Due to the extent of the sharing from the group it was impossible to complete all that we had hoped in the time frame.

    Marriage Ban Protest

During the Summit several local papers and television crews were interested in finding out more about marriage equality and the Equal Love Campaign. Consequently there was a press conference after lunch on the second day.

At the closing plenary Sharon chaired the discussion on Equal Marriage and short talks were presented by Erick Hou (legal), Peter Tatchell (Human Rights), Christina Beardsley (Trans), Su Knan (Judaism), and Tony Green (Christian). This was followed by questions from the conference attendees. This session was streamed live and will be available on the conference website shortly. (lgbtec.org.uk)

  2. Greenbelt: 26 – 29 August 2011

    26 August 2011

Greenbelt Logo 2011Greenbelt provided a wonderful opportunity once again to promote the work of LGCM and especially to open up dialogue with the wider Christian community. As well as spending time on the Outerspace stall I was able to attend and participate in the workshops and worship over the weekend. This included a wonderfully inspiring talk by Rob Bell entitled ‘Ubiquitous Gayz’, a recording of which can be purchased from the Greenbelt website.
