Two British Catholic gay and lesbian organisations and a national network for Catholic parents of lesbian, gay, and bisexual people, have issued a statement of support for Sister Jeannine Gramick SSND and Father Robert Nugent SDS, whose writings and pastoral ministry were censured in a strongly worded Vatican statement, issued on 13 July 1999. Sister Jeannine and Father Nugent founded New Ways Ministry in 1977, near Washington DC. Over the years they have facilitated a number of workshops in the UK for superiors of religious communities, clergy, pastoral workers, gay and lesbian people and their parents. (more…)

All the world's major religions are faced with having to come to terms with a modern understanding of homosexuality. The place of gay and lesbian people in the life of the Church is currently Christianity's most divisive issue. Confronting homophobia is its greatest challenge. The Lesbian and Gay Christian Movement is proclaiming a basic Christian truth. It is working for the very love and freedom that Christ brings to his people through his life, death and resurrection. LGCM is working for love, for peace, for justice, and for the promotion of the Christian faith especially within the LGBT community.

7 July 1999United Reformed Church General Assembly Criticised by lesbian and gay Christians
The General Assembly of the URC meeting in Southport today (7 July 1999) recommended a statement for consideration by individual Churches and other councils which is deeply flawed and divisive. If it is finally approved it will halt the pilgrimage of the URC in its free and open discussion of sexuality issues for the foreseeable future. (more…)
